The officiant led the guests in a round of applause.
Thunderous clapping echoed across the lawn.
I didn’t understand but clapped along anyway.
Jason’s face darkened as he bent down and kissed Sophia.
The ceremony ended with everyone’s blessings.

Grace Lockwood was moved to the point of fainting. Tears streamed down her face as she nodded repeatedly.
“Good, Jason. With Sophia in your care, I can die in peace.”
Finally, it was over.
I slipped away to a corner and changed into flats.
As soon as I’d finished, a familiar warmth pressed against my back.
I was pinned against Jason’s chest, hearing his heart pound steadily.
“Chloe, don’t worry. When we remarry, I’ll give you an even grander wedding.”
The old Chloe might’ve cried tears of joy at those words.
But now, I felt nothing.
Forget the remarriage–it was too much trouble to plan another wedding.
I pushed his hands off and stepped away.
“Your bride is over there watching. Don’t worry about me.”
Jason’s eyelashes trembled. “Chloe, are you still upset? I’m sorry. I just wanted to fulfill Grace’s wish. Once this is over, I’ll make it up to you. Okay?”
I smiled faintly. “Don’t be ridiculous. Go do what you need to. I understand.”
I didn’t want to talk anymore. I just wanted to find a quiet place to be alone.
Jason seemed relieved when I didn’t react much.
He smiled, somewhat forced. “I knew you’d always be the best, Chloe. I’ll come home tonight.”
That evening, Jason really did come home.
Before, I might’ve run to his arms, elated.
Now, I just sat calmly on the couch, watching TV, not even bothering to stand.
He carried a box of pastries, the kind I used to love.
“Chloe, try them. See if they still taste the same.”
I took a small bite. Tasteless. But I nodded anyway. “Pretty much.”
I put the rest down. I wasn’t hungry, and with my taste gone, eating felt pointless.
Jason’s expression darkened. “Chloe, what’s wrong? You seem out of it.”
I shook my head. He grew irritated, his tone firm.
“I’m staying the night. Chloe, you should get ready too.”
His tone left little doubt about his intentions.
But he was married now. If we were intimate, it would betray Sophia.
I thought about stopping him, but Jason had already gone to the bedroom.

I got up, planning to call Sophia and have her take Jason away.
Suddenly, Jason rushed out, holding a cotton baby onesia in one hand and a bag of baby supplies in the other.
He looked thrilled, even ecstatic.
“Chloe, are you….. are you pregnant?”
So that’s what he thought.
I shook my head. “These are for Sophia’s baby. She’s pregnant, Isn’t she? I thought they were cute, so I bought them. You can take them to her.”
Half a month ago, Sophia Lockwood discovered she was pregnant. That was why Jason Danish was so eager to divorce me and marry her.
He said that an out–of–wedlock pregnancy would ruin her reputation, and he couldn’t let that happen.
I had been upset about it for days.
He was that desperate to give Sophia a child.
