After standing all day without a single drop of water, Eleanor’s body felt like it was on the edge of giving up.
She took a deep breath and tried to gather the strength to get up and find something to eat. But as soon as she moved, the door to her tiny room was kicked open with a loud crash.
Eric stood in the doorway and looked down at Eleanor with a sneer, his face dark and unreadable. “Mr. Reed says you were not a part of the Reed family three years ago. If you want to stay here, you’ll have to work. The family doesn’t take in freeloaders.”
“Ridiculous” Eleanor laughed bitterly, her eyes full of fire. “Who the hell isn’t part of this family? This house belonged to my grandparents. Gregory is nothing but an orphan they adopted. He doesn’t even know his real parents, and now he claims he owes the house? What a joke?”
