Chapter 1
In the middle of the night, Julia Valentine was half–asleep when suddenly, a pair of warm hands gently embraced her.
“Ah…” Julia, being a light sleeper, was instantly startled. At that moment, the man in front of her leaned down and kissed her lips harshly. The next second, he forcefully entered her.
“Wait… Ouch…” Julia couldn’t help but struggle, sweating profusely in pain.
“Shh.” The man firmly held her down, grabbing her wrists to prevent her from moving.
Julia didn’t know what had gotten into Joseph Mullins today. They had been married for over a year, and he rarely came home. In the few times they met, they were distant like strangers.
The temperature seemed to be rising steadily, and Julia caught a whiff of alcohol. ‘So he’s drunk… she thought.
At that moment, Joseph buried his head in her neck, sucked hard, and murmured, “Amelie…”

‘Amelie?‘ Julia repeated in her mind, trembling. She felt his scorching breaths on her cheek but her heart grew colder. She slowly closed her eyes, tears trickling down her face.
Julia woke up early the next morning, her body aching so much she could barely get out of bed. She turned to look at the man sleeping beside her and how he held her in his arms. Tears welled up in her eyes.
It was the most intimate night they had spent since they got married, but it was because he mistook her for someone else. ‘Amelie… Julia murmured inwardly. ‘Isn’t she the beautiful yet weak woman in the hospital who needs my blood?‘
Julia got out of bed and tidied up the room, enduring the pain as she went about. She smiled bitterly as she told herself, ‘I probably can’t deceive myself any longer…
When Joseph woke up, he had a slight headache. Rubbing his temples, he noticed the mess in the room. Julia sat on the sofa, looking pale. Her gaze seemed lost, staring at nothingness.
There was a piece of paper and a pen on the coffee table before her. Joseph’s eyes fell bruises on her wrists, and he instinctively furrowed his brow.
“Are you awake?” Julia heard the sound and looked up, her voice calm.

Before he could finish his words, Julia stood up with a faint smile. Her gaze was calm as she looked at him. “Joseph, let’s get a divorce,” she said.
“What?” He thought that maybe what happened last night had hurt her feelings, so he patiently repeated himself though his voice was now cold and stern. “I said I would make it up to you. Don’t be ridiculous.”
Even though Joseph had been forced to marry Julia, she had not caused any trouble over the past year, making his life relatively peaceful. Last night was just an accident.
Julia bit her lip so hard that it bled. Then, in a strained voice, she calmly repeated her words without a hint of emotion. “And I said, let’s get a divorce.” With that, she picked up the paper and pen from the coffee table and handed them to Joseph. “Once you’ve signed it, we’ll go to the city hall,” she said.
Joseph looked at Julia coldly, his lips curling into a sarcastic smile. “Alright then, as long as you won’t regret it.”
