Chapter 15
“What?” Julia felt like a bolt of lightning had struck her, causing her to freeze. ‘What’s going on?‘ she yelled inwardly. ‘Mom! Don’t you know that I just got divorced from him?’
Joseph’s expression remained cold, but he was also slightly taken aback. When he saw Rylie’s smile, he suddenly felt somewhat helpless.
It was evident that this matter was related to Rylie.
On the other hand, Amelie had been acting strange since Julia’s appearance. At this moment, her frail body was trembling as if she would fall to the ground the next second. Her face was pale, and she bit her lip tightly. Her eyes were filled with anger, jealousy, and resentment as she gazed at Julia.
The guests seemed to be stunned by Catalina’s words as well. There was a moment of silence before a burst of murmuring and discussion broke out.
“Goodness, this is crazy! What’s going on here?”
“Getting married right after a divorce?”
“What’s the deal with the woman next to Joseph?”
“I heard Joseph dotes on her. Perhaps this divorce is also related to her, but now…”
Amelie’s face turned even paler after hearing people’s discussions. Her eyes reddened as she gently tugged at Joseph’s sleeve, looking at him pitifully, her voice trembling as she pleaded, “Joseph…”
Julia was at least stunned for a good half a minute before she slowly regained her composure.
Julia took a deep breath, smiled again, and scanned the people below, finally settling her gaze on Joseph. “It was just a childhood promise. It doesn’t count anymore. Besides, it would be too unfair to Miss Hamilton.” Julia’s words were a clear public rejection of the engagement to Joseph.
Joseph had initially been looking at Amelie, but at this moment, he raised his eyes to look at Julia. For some reason, upon hearing this, he suddenly felt very displeased, and his face darkened.
Julia seemed a bit confused. ‘Why does he look so unhappy?‘ she wondered. ‘Did I say something wrong?‘ She thought momentarily and sincerely said, “Also, I wish Mr. Mullins and Miss Hamilton happiness forever.”
Julia’s words made both Rylie and Catalina very regretful, but after all, Julia had said these words in front of so many people, so they couldn’t say anything.
Catalina quickly turned the music on, indicating that everyone was free to do as they pleased. She then pulled Julia aside and whispered, “Julia, didn’t Rylie say that you liked Joseph? Why did you…”
Julia guessed that it was related to Rylie. She couldn’t help but say helplessly, “Mom, that was in the past. Besides, he doesn’t like me.”
Catalina pursed her lips. “Why doesn’t he like you? You’re such a perfect girl.”
Julia fell silent. She really didn’t know the answer.
“Never mind. Go downstairs and dance. It’s a good opportunity to make friends,” Catalina suggested.
Then, Julia went downstairs with her dress in hand. She saw Amelie pulling Joseph to the side and whispering something in his ear, but she didn’t care. She just felt that Amelie was quite strong–minded to be able to stay here without throwing a fit.
Julia was about to go to the table to get something to eat. She hadn’t eaten anything all afternoon and was a bit hungry. Then, she heard someone call her, and immediately, Byron, wearing a black suit, quickly walked toward her with a bright smile on

his face. He was so tall and handsome that he looked like a celebrity on TV.
“Where did you just run off to? I didn’t see you.” Julia waved at him.
Byron stopped a step away from her, slightly bent his knees, and reached out to her. “Julia, may I have this dance with you?”
It seemed that lately, Byron had been acting strange.
Julia smiled and declined. “I don’t know how to dance.”
Byron didn’t give up, a smile playing on his lips. “What’s there to be afraid of? Are you really that timid?”
Although Julia knew it was a challenge, many people were around, so she didn’t want to embarrass Byron. She had to reiterate, “I really don’t know how.”
“It’s okay. Just follow my lead,” Byron said.
Julia felt a bit helpless. But after a while, she reluctantly placed her hand in his.
