Chapter 22
Julia quietly watched as Amelie performed, remaining silent.
Amelie felt like she had punched into the air. Feeling a little stifled, she spoke with a sharp tongue. “Julia, aren’t you coming here every day just to create opportunities to remarry Joseph? If you pick up the fallen desserts and eat them, I may still generously give you a chance and say some good things about you in front of Joseph.”
“No need for that.” Julia said softly.
“So now that you’re the princess of the Lopez family, you’re acting all high and mighty, huh? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking. Amelie’s expression became even more disdainful. “You can rest assured that once I become Mrs. Mullins, and considering that you had donated so much blood to me, I won’t prevent you from visiting. If push comes to shove, I can always have you work as a servant in the Mullins family. At the very least, you can still make soup for me.”
As she spoke. Amelie reached out to touch the prepared medicinal meal. Suddenly, her hand exerted force, and the scalding hot soup bowl fell to the ground. With a bang, a mess formed on the floor, and a strong fragrance filled the air.
In the study, Joseph heard the noise and frowned. An expression of anger appeared on his face as he got up and went downstairs.
As she watched Amelia knock over the medicinal meal she carefully prepared, a sharp glint appeared in Julia’s eyes.
Meanwhile, Amelie continued to feign surprise. “Oh my, Julia, how could you intentionally spill the medicinal meal even if you don’t like me?”
Julia scoffed lightly, picked up her cup, walked to the side of the water basin, poured cold water, and splashed it onto Amelie’s face.
“Ah, what are you doing!” Amelie’s expression suddenly changed from pride to disarray. She blankly felt the sensation of coldness pouring down from her head, her eyes becoming dark and angry.
At this moment, two voices suddenly sounded.
“What’s the matter?”
“What are you doing?”
Rylie, who went out for afternoon tea, had returned while Joseph came downstairs to the kitchen door.
In front of Julia and Rylie, Amelie threw herself into Joseph’s arms with a look of grievance on her face, her body trembling continuously while tears streaming down her cheek. “I’m sorry, Joseph. I wanted to ask Julia to teach me how to make medicinal cuisine as I wanted to do something meaningful for Rylie. I didn’t expect Julia to refuse and spill the medicinal cuisine out of anger
While comforting Amelie, Joseph glanced briefly at Julia’s cool, slightly sarcastic expression before shifting his gaze to the overturned bowl of soup.
“See? I even burned my hand while trying to pick up the soup.” Speaking, Amelie raised her red right hand.
Julia suddenly laughed coldly. ‘No wonder she was so bold just now. She understood the trick of pretending to be pitiful, she thought
“Is what Amelie said true?‘ Joseph’s expression turned cold, indicating that he had believed Amelie’s words.
At this moment, Rylie walked in and stood in front of Julia. “Is it true just because she said it? I know Julia better than anyone, and she wouldn’t do such a thing”
As she spoke, Rylie’s gaze fell upon Amelie with absolute disgust. “This woman is acting just to frame Julia, Joseph, do you know she even hooked up with the director to climb the ranks then?”

Chapter 22
Amelie’s heart raced with panic. She quickly interrupted Rylie and said with even more indignation. “Joseph, I know Rylie has never liked me. She has always looked down on my family background. But how could she slander my innocence like this? I only love you and want to marry you. Is there anything wrong with that?”
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes. Joseph couldn’t help but glance at Rylie and Julia with a furrowed brow.
His appearance indicated a belief in Amelie’s words. “Mom, you can’t just slander Amelie to defend Julia. She has always been chaste, and there hasn’t been any other man besides me all these years.”
Rylie paled with anger and took a step back.
Julia quickly supported her.
As Julia locked eyes with Joseph, she saw his suspicion and coldness toward her in his slightly chilly gaze.
She suddenly felt ridiculous.
What was happening right now had occurred countless times since she married Joseph, but none were more ironic and chilling to her than now.
“So? Why would I overturn the carefully prepared medicinal meals for Rylie? Just to frame Amelie?” Julia asked in a serious
tone.
“When I said that you came to the Mullins family’s mansion to please Rylie and just want to remarry Joseph, you were so ashamed and angry…” Amelie interjected at the right time.
Joseph’s gaze, however, gradually became fierce because of her words, piercing through Julia like a knife. “Julia, please explain.” Explain what? Julia said inwardly.
“Joseph, listen carefully. The only thing I regret in my life is marrying you.” With that, Julia lowered her gaze and looked at the mess on the ground as if seeing her past self. Fortunately, she realized it quickly and didn’t get dragged into the mud, becoming a disgusting mess.
Julia and Rylie left the kitchen.
Joseph clenched his jaw into a straight line, watching Julia’s uninterrupted back, unconsciously increasing the strength of his grip on Amelie’s wrist.
“Ah, Joseph, you’re hurting my hand, squealed Amelie. Feeling the chilling attitude of the man, Amelie spoke with grievance and worry again. “Are you angry with me? Maybe I misunderstood Julia. She just got upset for a moment and caused such a big disturbance”
Joseph withdrew his gaze. All his emotions were contained in his eyes, with no expression on his handsome face. “I won’t be angry with you, Amelie. I will visit you often in the future. However, my mother still has some bias against you. Please don’t come here for the time being.”
His voice remained steady, and there was a slight tremble in Amelie’s heart as she softly nodded and pretended to be obedient as she said. ‘I’ll do as you say?
“I will take you back.” Saying this, Joseph went upstairs to retrieve his coat and keys. As he passed by Rylie’s room, he caught a glimpse of a slender figure through the slightly ajar door. He paused for a moment, averted his gaze, and proceeded downstairs.
In the room, Rylie heard the sound of the car starting and driving away. Her well–maintained face once again showed an expression of disappointment.
Rylie tightly held Julia’s hand. Looking at her still gentle and tender appearance, Rylie couldn’t help but feel even more heartache. “Amelie grew up with Joseph from a young age and has always liked to act weak and pitiful. As such, Joseph was deceived by her. Julia, rest assured. I will never let her step foot in here again in the future. If Joseph dares to bring her here, I

will drive them out.”
Noticing Rylie’s attempts to comfort her, Julia smiled slightly and said, “Rylie, I am not interested in her or Joseph’s affairs.”
At this moment, as she recalled Joseph’s sharp gaze as he protected Amelie just now, Julia had only one thought in mind. These two people were well–matched,‘ she thought.
Julia had never felt as clearly as she did now that she was indeed the barrier between Amelie and Joseph in the past year when she had been married to him.
A smile appeared at the corner of her mouth as Julia calmly spoke under Rylie’s concerned gaze. “I have no feelings for Joseph now. I just don’t want to be unjustly accused by irrelevant people.”
Rylie suddenly understood and patted Julia’s hand. “You can rest assured. I will give you an account of this matter.”
