Chapter 13
When Nathen received a call from the police, he had just entered the study and was about to open the drawer next to the printer.
He really didn’t know where to find Melanie. Suddenly, he remembered that she seemed to have written a wish list before, so he started rummaging through boxes and cabinets to find it.
When he heard the words coming from his ear, his hand on the lever clenched tightly.
“Nathen, Mr. Cowan, right? Are you available now? Could you please come to the Police Station? We would like to discuss something regarding your wife, Melanie.”
Police station?
Whenever these three appeared, Nathen’s breathing became irregular.
A wave of unprecedented panic surged through my heart.
He didn’t even change his shoes and hurriedly drove over.
When he arrived at the destination, he looked around at the surroundings and felt a sense of familiarity.
After getting off the car, he walked to the door and saw the police badge hanging high above his head. It was only then that he remembered the last time he was here, when he had encountered
Melanie.
At that time, he asked her what she was doing here, but she did not give him a direct answer.
Returning to the old place now, Nathen becomes increasingly uneasy as he recalls the past.
His intuition told him that the things he was about to find out next were definitely related to that
day.
His heart was beating rapidly, as if it wanted to burst out of his chest.
He couldn’t help but clench his fist, fabricating a set of words claiming that the police had found Melanie’s whereabouts, in an attempt to suppress the panic that was about to make him collapse.
He stood outside the door for a long time before finally gaining control of his emotions and walked in.
After hearing his name, the staff invited him into a small office, where they spent half a day flipping through a stack of documents and asking a few questions.
Are you and Melanie in a marital relationship?”
“They were husband and wife.”

“Was there no divorce?”
There was no divorce.”
Upon hearing his response, the staff furrowed their brows and muttered a few words.
“Didn’t we say we were going to get divorced last time? Why haven’t we divorced yet?”
Nathen’s heart suddenly rose to his throat.
Before, he had also heard the words “divorce” from others, knowing that Melanie wanted to
divorce him.
But until she disappeared, she never mentioned any words related to divorce, and he never signed
any divorce agreement.
He didn’t understand why she chose to disappear instead of expressing her thoughts about divorce,
since she had already had the idea.
He thought for a long time and in the end, he could only come up with one reason.
Melanie actually didn’t want a divorce, and the reason she kept bringing up the matter everywhere was to make him realize and voluntarily admit to the emotional affair.
And disappearance became an important part of it.
Only when she disappeared did he become completely focused on searching for her whereabouts and only then did he learn about her intentions through others.
Nathen used this logic to deceive himself, trying to convince himself that there were still chances to
salvage everything.
In front of the police, he had no way to deceive himself like this again.
So he stood up in panic and asked a question that made him uneasy.
“Did she come to see you before? What procedures did she come to handle?” “Account closure.
Upon hearing these two words, Nathen’s pupils suddenly dilated and his right eyelid began to twitch uncontrollably.
He couldn’t believe what he had heard and stammered as he asked again.
“Cancel, cancel the account? Did you process it?”
The staff lifted up the thick stack of documents and waved it in front of him, speaking in á very
serious tone.
Of course not, she was living well at that time, how could I dare to go against the rules and regulations.”

Nathen’s tense body just relaxed.
The next second, the words spoken by the person opposite directly left him completely stunned.
“But now it can be processed, and I called you for this matter. Since you two haven’t divorced yet, you should help her with the aftermath. I see that she is still disabled and severely depressed, she is really a pitiful person.”
