Chapter 8 Compensation
Time passed quickly, and although I didn’t explicitly say it, Logan seemed to know that I was in trouble.
He also didn’t dig deep; he just repeated my situation of the past two years.
I roughly understood it all, and couldn’t help but feel a little emotional.
At the age of 25, I could actually love someone to this extent.
This is something that the eighteen–year–old me could never have imagined.
For no reason at all, I suddenly found myself seven years older, and I had become the kind of person
I used to despise the most – someone obsessed with love. I just couldn’t accept it.
Just as I was joking and laughing with Logan, a familiar sweet voice suddenly came from beside. “Isn’t that Kayley? How could she be with Logan…”
After speaking, she suddenly realized, “It must be because Logan saved her yesterday, so she wants to show her gratitude, right? I believe Kayley is definitely not the kind of person who meets men privately.”
I turned
my head and saw Niko standing in front of us, with Madeleine beside him, but I didn’t know when they had arrived.
Niko looked at me coldly and said, “I remember I used to say that I didn’t like you being with him.”
I frowned and said, “They are getting divorced, what the hell does it have to do with you:
I couldn’t believe that I would completely break off with my friends just because Niko didn’t like
them.
It is necessary to maintain a basic social distance, but why should I have no opposite–sex friends?
Niko looked at Logan expressionlessly and said, “Yesterday, you saved my wife. I have already” expressed my gratitude to you with the project in the western suburbs. There is no need for you to meet privately.”
Logan smiled faintly, his expression somewhat provocative. “Yesterday, it was you who thanked me as her husband, but today I am accepting her gratitude as her friend. Please do not confuse the
two.”
The atmosphere suddenly became tense.
I really didn’t want to see the two of them here, so I picked up my bag and was about to leave.
Logan, let’s go somewhere else.”
Niko suddenly grabbed my arm and stared at me coldly, “Where are you going?”

“What does it have to do with you?” I glanced at Madeleine behind him. “Just go and be with your person. Hurry up and send the divorce agreement, otherwise, she will forever be a despicable
mistress.”
Niko opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but I had no interest in listening. I shrugged off his hand and walked away with Logan.
In the evening, I finally returned home.
In this unfamiliar world, I was not familiar at all. These past two days, I had to find a place to stay, otherwise, even if I got divorced, I wouldn’t know where to go.
Niko saw me coming back and coldly walked over, “You still know how to come back?”
His questioning tone made me feel very annoyed. “Can you stop staring at me? I was just going out
with friends, what does it have to do with you?”
As soon as the words were spoken, a sharp pain suddenly shot through my temple.
Flashes of vague fragments appeared in my mind, and I took a step back, gripping the armrest of the sofa beside me tightly.
It seems like when did this sentence appear in front of me before…
I suddenly looked up at him, with bloodshot eyes.
I remembered.
There is a clear image in my mind, showing that Niko had also said the exact same words to me.
He went out for socializing and came back late. I asked him, and he would brush me off with such art, impatient tone.
And now, these words, I return to him exactly as they were.
Niko seemed to have thought of something, as his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down.
It took a long time before he explained to me, “I met with Madeleine, but not in the way you thip Our families have a long–standing relationship, and there are some things that cannot be avoided. However, I have been reducing my contact with her…”
“You didn’t have to do this.”
I interrupted him and said, “If you felt guilty for not saving me when I fell into the water, and you I don’t want to divorce me, and you want to make amends, then there is absolutely no need for that.”
I shook my head and said, “You might as well have compensated me more when we got divorced…”
