Chapter 43
Vhat do you mean you know he is good in bed?” Lasked, not sure I would like her answer.
why Do you feel hurt? You can’t possibly think you’re the only one he has slept with, Bree” She says it slyly, with a venomous smile on her face.
“You are just lying. I get that you are angry about me not telling you, but you don’t need to make up lies just to ruin counter back, refusing to believe whatever word she spat our about Hayden and her.
n Hayden and my relationship” I
You are more dense than I thought. He had been with me way before even sleeping with you. That’s just how he is, be takes what he wants, then moves on to the next poor victim. Tskisk, I feel sorry for the fact that you actually think you matter in his life.” She says that her words cut deep into my heart, and tears came posting out of my eyes.
“Really, you are crying now. It’s best you end it with him if you don’t want to cry some more from heartbreak. You and him are from different class; your dad may be his dad’s partner, but that doesn’t make you on the same level as him. Have some pride. She gave me one last glare before walking past me. Her shoulder hit my hard, and 1 stuttered backward, almost falling, but a hand caught me.
I turned to look at the person who saved me from falling to find Oliver with an angry look on his face, staring at Maddie, who was retreating back with anger.
“Are you okay?” he asked his voice laced with concert.
I nodded my head, saying yes when the last thing I felt was okay, and I think he knows because he pulled me into a hug and I cried my eyes oUL NOT because of the word she said about Hayden and me but because of the fact that she was the one who said it. I would have expected this from Sophie or any other girl in the school who wanted Hayden for themselves
But Maddie.
She was the last person I ever thought would say such a thing to me, Sofie and I tried to brush past the idea that she might like Hayden, her words just confirmed it all, and it hurt deep down. Her words were like needles constantly used to stab my heart.

The classroom door opened, and Sofie walked in. I pulled away from Oliver, turning away to the other side so that Solle wouldn’t see me as I tried to discreetly clean the tears off my face. I glanced at her, masking the hurt in my face with a smile, but she saw right through me.
Sofie’s eyes shifted from Oliver to me, then to Oliver, and back to the. Her eyes rested on my face as if she were trying to figure something out. She walked towards me with concern, standing between Oliver and me.
“What’s going on? Why were you crying, Bree?” she voiced out, her eyebrows knitting together in confusion. I didn’t know how to answer, so Oliver decided to explain to her.
“After you told me to go look for Free because she was taking time at the locker, I didn’t find her there, so I started searching the hall and classroom to see if I could find her. He paused, looking at Sofie with a clenched jaw. Then I walked in on Madhe, saying hurful words at her and asking her to break up with Hayden.”
If possible, Sofie looked even more confused at what Oliver had said, especially about Maddie. Even I still couldn’t believe it, even though it was still fresh in my brain.
“Maddie…” Sofie asked, and Oliver nodded. “Was she hurt that you didn’t tell her about Hayden!”
I shook, deciding to tell her everything. I started with how she dragged me to the class and how she said she sleeps with Hayden. I told her word for word, even though I struggled to say
Sofie’s face contorted so many emotions upon hearing everything from one, the most prominent emotion was hurt. She kept on blinking her eyes rapidly; that was something she did when she was trying to hold back tears from falling from her eyes.
I can’t believe she said all that to you. What the hell happened to her?” She questioned the same thought that keeps spinning around my mind. “First she breaks up with Dylan, then she threatens and tells you to break up with Hayden because she feels you don’t deserve him”
We stood there in silence for some minutes, trying to think about what could have happened to make Maddie change so drastically.
“I’m going to have to confront her to hell with giving her space” Sobe said it angrily.
Our conversation was ended by the sound of the bell, indicating the beginning of a new period. We got out of the empty classroom and headed in the direction of our next class for the day. No one said a word.
Lavoided Hayden during the next few hours of school. My eyes were still red, and my cheek was pully, so he could easily tell that I had been crying. and I didn’t want to trouble him. More importantly, I wanted to know if what Maddie had said about the two of them was actually the truth, but I was too scared to confront him because I kept dreading his answer.

Chapter 43
w that school was over, I knew there was no way I could avoid him again since we stayed in the same house and he was my ride home. I made it to the parking lot, where he was. He rested his back on the hood of his car, typing leverously. My phone pinged in my hand, and I raised i to see the tenth message Hayden had sent since lunch.
I sighed, making my way towards him. His bead shot up when he noticed my presence, and he let out a breath of relief, pulling me closer to him for a hug. He held me tight for some time before pulling away to assess my face.
“Oliver told us what happened, get in the car. We will talk when we get home.” He opens the front door for me
I got in without saying anything, clenching on to my school bag while he got in the driver’s seat. He fastened my seatbelt as well as his, then drove out of the school parking lot, making his way in the direction of his house in silence.
He drove into the mansion, and we both got out of the car. Hayden passed the key to the chauffeur before taking my hand in his. We walked into The car to see where the kitchen was. He pointed to the stool, and I took a seat, looking expectantly. The question looms at the tip of my tongue
The maid in the kitchen brought out a plate of mac’n’cheese, placing it at my front, and I looked at her, confused, then shifted my glance to Hayden, who was already looking at me.
“Eat first, then we talk. You missed lunch this afternoon, so you must be hungry,” he explained. I picked up the spoon and started eating. I didn’t realise I was this hungry until I rated the food in my mouth
I finished the food in a blink of an eye and also drank the juice. When he saw that I was done eating, he took my hand again. Walking upstairs to his room we went inside, and I walked to the bed, laying on my back, and Hayden did the same
“Oliver told me about what Maddie told you. So tell me, Bree, what you want to know” He said, We both looked at the ceiling of the room.
1 let out a sigh. “Is it true you slept with Madlie?” I asked so fast that I was sure he heard me. My eyes shot closed as I waited for his answer
One word was all he needed to remove whatever doubt and fear 1 felt in my heart. I breathed out in rehef, my eyes peeled open, and I turned to lay by my side, staring at him. He did the same, lying at his side. His eyes are on my face. He placed his hand on my cheek, caressing it sofily, putting a strain behind my ear.
“I don’t know why she lied to you and said we slept together. I might have been a little over the places in the past, but I know my limits. I knew Dylan liked her for a long time before he asked her out. I would never do anything to hurt Dylan or you.”
I smiled at this, placing my own hands on his check. I’m sorry I doubted you. It hadn’t even been up to a week, and this happened.”
He smiled, shaking his head. “I’m not angry, princess, and just like how we overcame this, we will continue to overcome every misunderstanding He said. Kiss my forehead.
“I know Maddie’s words and behaviour hurt you and Sofie badly, but I know you girls can work it out. You just need to remind her of the times three spent together. You girls were like the three musketeers. I doubt anything can separate you three.”
you
His words were very comforting to me, and I smiled at this. He pulled me closer to his chest, snuggling close to him. He has become an important. part of my life. I didn’t know what was to come in the future, but I know that with him by my side, we would overcome whatever obstacles we encountered, just like he said.
I snuggle even closer to him, his cologne calming me down. I sigh in contentment, my eyes slowly closing as Hayden softly patted my back.
