After Jack left with Sophia,
The remaining friends chatted for a while longer.
Some of them regretted that my kindness had been wasted on ungrateful people.
I told everyone about my upcoming new journey.
It received great approval.
Before parting, we hugged each other.
Afraid of crying, I insisted repeatedly that they not see me off at the airport.
In the waiting hall, Jack’s message suddenly popped up: [Emily, where are you going? Why is everyone in the group chat wishing you a safe journey?]
Before I could reply, he called.
Staring at the screen, I hesitated for a long time before answering.
Almost immediately, an anxious voice came from the other end: “Are you going abroad? That chat with your aunt I saw on your phone the other day, was it serious? Emily, I was wrong yesterday. I drank too much and couldn’t control my emotions. I’m sorry…“‘
I softly “hmm“-ed: “It’s all in the past, Jack.”
After a moment of silence, his voice became hoarse: “Don’t go, okay? I’ll come find you now. Let’s talk things through. My parents are coming home soon, and they’re waiting for you to have a family reunion dinner…”
I looked up at the time on the big screen.
I sweetly replied: “Okay.”
Jack seemed excited and was about to hang up when I heard the sound of a car starting on his end.
I ended the call, blocked all his contact methods, then picked up my suitcase and walked through the security gate.
