Walking up to the second floor, I saw the light on in Jack’s room.
My steps faltered.
He was back too?
I didn’t want to have any more entanglements with him and planned to pack up quickly and leave.

After living at the Wilson house for years, I didn’t have many personal belongings.
The daffodils growing by the window, the little rabbit in the cage, were all things Jack and I had taken care of together.
I didn’t want any of these anymore.
Except for the few dresses Jack gave me last year, I left nothing that belonged to me.
Just as I closed my suitcase, I heard the sound of the doorknob turning behind me.
Before I could react, Jack was already standing behind me.
He was tall and lean, with only a loose towel wrapped around his waist.
The kiss marks on his collarbone were clearly visible.
His expression was somewhat surprised: “Emily, why are you back?”
“I came to get some things. I’ll leave soon,” I replied coolly.
“I was wrong that day. I apologize. Can you stop being angry with me?” He rubbed his brow, his gaze casually sweeping over.
When it stopped at the bedside cabinet, his pupils constricted.
The place where our photo used to be was now empty.
“Emily, did you throw away our photo?” He stepped forward and took the frame out of the trash, putting it back in its place.
I watched his actions without emotion: “Mm, I didn’t want it anymore.”
He raised his eyes to scan the room, his expression unclear.
There was no trace of anyone having lived in the room.
Those dark eyes stared at me intently: “Why did you take all your things away?”
He approached slowly, step by step, until he had me backed against the wall: “Emily, you’ve grown bold? Daring to play the runaway game with
me?”
He lifted my chin, his gaze deep.
That handsome face suddenly enlarged before me, his breath getting closer.
I lowered my eyes, trying to appear calm: “It’s not…”
“Coming to get clothes for the change of seasons?” Jack blinked very slowly, “Lying to me comes with a price.”
I felt like a guilty child, my heart racing: “The exam is coming up soon, I… I brought everything back to the dorm to avoid distractions.”
He didn’t speak, just touching my cheek with the back of his hand. The lie made my cheeks burn, as if he would expose me the next second.
After a moment, he chuckled softly by my ear: “Heh, that’s a good girl.”
I instinctively turned my head, avoiding his attempt to bite me: “Jack, you have a girlfriend.”
He took in my movement, looking at me with a smile: “Be good, I just wanted to thank you for not saying anything this afternoon.”
His hands landed on top of my head, gently rubbing: “Sophia is different from you. She won’t get jealous.”
I looked up at him, feelings of excitement and dislike intertwined.
The last bit of clarity in my heart seemed to say: Emily, you’re really hopeless.
He smiled: “Before you go, help me bring up the condoms from the car. Sophia will be scared if I’m not in the room.”

“Jack!” I pushed him away forcefully, “Are you treating me like some kind of prop in your relationship?”
“I used to like you, always seeing you through rose–colored glasses, harboring fantasies.
“But now I understand. Someone like you isn’t worth my love at all.”
I ignored his stunned expression and walked out pulling my suitcase.
