Bert’s expression turned grave. A servant approached him. “Sir, I heard that Miss Bernard is getting engaged to Drake. Invitations have been sent out, but Miss Eaton doesn’t know yet.”

Juan silently watched the scene. Garland peeked through the door crack.

Juan sank back into the couch, his expression unreadable.
