The officers finally had enough and explained everything to my mom.
Shocked, my mom turned to Ivy. “Ivy Bright! You’ve always been such a sweet and obedient child. How could you get involved with thugs and let them bully Hazel? She’s your
twin sister!”
“How did you turn out like this?”
Realizing her cover was blown, Ivy dropped all pretense.
“Why? Why did I turn out like this? Maybe you and Dad should answer that! We’re twins, aren’t we? Why is Hazel tall and beautiful while I’m short and ugly?”
Mom had explained this countless times before. We were fraternal twins–I took after Mom, and Ivy took after Dad.
But Ivy couldn’t get past this.
“Why is she so smart? She barely studies, crams for a month, and aces middle school exams to get into high school. She doesn’t study for three years, then preps for one month and gets first in the whole school. And me? I work so hard, and my best result is ter in the grade!”
“I push myself so hard that I haven’t had my period for three months, and I still can’t beat er. Why do you give her everything?”
Mom and Dad stood there, speechless. This wasn’t something they could control–looks and intelligence weren’t up to them.
Then Ivy turned on Ethan.
“And you! What does she have that I don’t? You gave up studying abroad just to stay here
with her. I’ve been so good to you, but you don’t even see it!”
I stared at Ethan in disbelief. I thought he stuck around because he needed me to help him rank up in games. In my last life, Ivy married Ethan. I always assumed he liked her.

Ethan’s mom, however, had no such concerns and laughed heartily. “Oh, kids! If they like each other, it’s fine as long as it doesn’t affect their studies.”
My mom quickly stepped in front of me, shielding me from Ethan’s eager gaze.
“Hazel is still young. No dating allowed.”
Ethan’s mom wasn’t deterred and followed us, pressing on. “Mrs. Bright, our Ethan doesn’t do well in school, and we can’t expect much from him. But if Hazel marries him, I’ll hand over my company to her. It’s not a giant corporation, but it’s worth a few billion.”
Ivy’s face went black. She ran out into the rain, screaming back at me, “Hazel Bright! I will surpass you. I’ll be better than you no matter what it takes!”
I admired her determination–her competitive spirit was admirable. But her victories shouldn’t come at my expense.
