Both Queenie and George flinched, startled by the sudden noise.

That old fox must’ve woken up, and she knew exactly how he’d play his hand.
Queenie’s eyes glinted with a dangerous determination as she grabbed her phone.
She’d done her homework on Jace. Every secret, every ally–she had it all mapped out.
She knew he had shady connections, and if cornered, he’d lash out like a wounded animal.
And now, here they were, right on cue.
After rattling off her address to the dispatcher, she ended the call.

“You’ve burned every bridge, Jace. Your nephews? They’d rather see your company in pieces than lift a finger to save it.
“You never planted a single seed, but now you want shade? Pathetic. Sending a pack of meatheads to scare me? That’s your grand plan?

Her laugh was low and full of menace, like a wolf savoring its
prey.

His breathing grew ragged, and each inhale labored as he fought to keep his rage from overwhelming him.
Queenie smirked, a spark of satisfaction in her eyes. Turning to George, she said with calm assurance, “George, head to the bedroom and wait for me. I’ll handle the rest.”
George hesitated, concern etched across his face. “Queenie…”
“Trust me. A few bruises? Small price to pay,” she said with a
wink.
George gave the door one last wary glance, its hinges rattling under the relentless pounding, then nodded. “Be careful,” he murmured before retreating.
Queenie turned back to the door, placing her phone strategically on the windowsill.
“Jace, pay close attention. You’re about to lose your son and everything you hold dear. And remember all those lessons about patience and timing you taught me? They’re coming back to bite you. And it will be painful!”
Jace’s voice exploded on the other end. “Queenie, you’re a damn snake!”

The door splintered open.
A dozen men poured in, leather jackets gleaming and faces set in
sneers.
Leading them was Liam Foliot, Jace’s youngest son.
“What do you want? Who are you?” Queenie shrieked, her voice high and panicked.
Liam’s eyes burned with hatred. “You destroyed my family, Queenie! Tonight, it’s your turn to pay.”
Queenie stumbled back, her eyes wide and filled with fear. “No, stay back! I don’t know who you are!”

She kept stepping back, not daring to retreat into the room, standing her ground at the doorway.
“Help… somebody, please help!” Queenie screamed, her voice breaking with desperation.

A bright red handprint instantly appeared on her cheek, swelling up quickly.
“Ah…” Queenie cried out, the sting from the slap shooting through her head. She knew things would get rough, but she hadn’t imagined it would be this violent.
Her ears rang, and the taste of blood in her mouth made her stomach turn.
“Ahem… Ahem…” The pain was so intense that tears welled up in her eyes.
