Chapter 20
Hank glanced at Icarus, then at Emily. He snorted.
“Both of you, behave yourselves!” With that, he left the classroom unhappily.
Emily was angry to see him leave just like that. Her expression was livid.
Her face still hurt, which made her simmer with anger.
However, she couldn’t do anything to Icarus.
Icarus glanced at the students gathered around him and smirked.
It was too easy to deal with these kids who only had a little more than a decade of wisdom.
Icarus went up to Emily. “We can call it quits now. I hope you’re not thinking of getting revenge on Luna. If you do, make sure you end up like Leon.”
Emily shuddered inwardly when she saw the cold look Icarus was leveling her. Her malicious retort died on her tongue.
Icarus went back to his seat. Ruth looked curious. “How did you do it, Icarus? You did…”
“If you really want to know, I don’t mind giving you a demonstration. Here, lean closer,” Icarus said.
“No, thanks!” Ruth stuck her tongue out and shrunk back
Icarus hadn’t used any mysterious spells when he’d slapped Emily; it had just been a matter of diverting his energy.
After classes ended in the afternoon, Icarus left the classroom with Ruth.
When they got to the entrance of the school, Ruth saw a familiar figure on the other side of the road.
“Isn’t that Edith?”
Edith was sitting in a convertible sports car, her face full of smiles.
Sitting in the driver’s seat was Xavier.
When Ruth saw Xavier, she frowned.
Why was Edith with Xavier?
She’d told her many times before that Xavier wasn’t a good person.
While Ruth was rooted to the spot, Xavier drove off with Edith.
Ruth decided to ask Edith about this the next day.
Half an hour later, Icarus arrived at the Talbot residence.
Michael was sitting in the living room. A middle–aged man wearing a pair of gold–rimmed spectacles sat across from him. They seemed to be deep in discussion.
Behind the middle–aged man stood a man in white martial arts attire.
The young man captured Icarus‘ attention. He looked to be in his mid–20s, but he was already in the 9th stage of the refinement phase..
He would be considered a prodigy in martial arts amongst regular people.
“Ah, Dr. Frye, you’re here.” Michael stood up as soon as he saw Icarus,
The middle–aged man gave him a curious once–over.
Behind him, the young man’s expression changed when he saw Icarus.
Wasn’t this the man that Ingrid had ordered him to kill?
The young man whispered something into the middle aged man’s car.
After hearing what the young man whispered, the middle–aged man’s gaze turned meaningful as he stared at Icarus.
“Oh, I forgot to introduce you. This is Sean Young, head of the Young family. He’s here to talk to me about some business stuff,” Michael introduced. Turning to Sean, he added, “And this is Dr. Icarus Frye, the doctor that I mentioned earlier.”
“Oh, that’s him? He looks young,” Sean said, narrowing his eyes.
“The younger generations are quite capable now. I used to doubt the existence of someone as good as Dr. Frye too, but now I have faith in him,” Michael said.
“Is he really that good?” Sean continued staring at Icarus. There was a strange tone in his voice.
Just then, Ruth pulled on Icarus‘ arm and whispered, “Let’s go upstairs. We can come back down when Dad’s done with his discussions.”
Sean spoke. “Long time no see, Ruth.”
“Ruth, you didn’t greet Uncle Sean!” Michael admonished.
“Uncle Sean,” Ruth greeted reluctantly.
“Ruth is growing to be a pretty young lady. Do you remember the marriage agreement we made in the past? It should still count, right?” Sean said with a laugh.
Michael sighed. “Young people nowadays don’t want their parents to interfere in their love life. I’ve come to terms with it. I’m not going to force Ruth to marry anyone. She can go out with whoever she likes.”
Sean laughed. “Right. We don’t have to force the youngsters to do anything, but we can do some matchmaking, can’t we? I’ll tell Xavier to talk to Ruth more. Maybe they’ll fall in love somehow.”
“We’re going upstairs, Dad. We’ll come down when you’re done,” Ruth said, not wanting to continue listening to that.
“Okay, go ahead,” Michael said.
“Oh no, don’t bother. I’m leaving anyway. I have a meeting to attend back at my company,” Sean said, glancing at his watch. He stood up.
Michael stood up as well. “Well, I suppose I won’t keep you for dinner.”
“You’ll have the chance next time,” Sean said with a smile. Then, as if he’d just thought of something, he turned to the young man. “This is one of my proteges. I’ve brought him here to broaden his horizons.”
Turning to the man, he said, “You should talk to more people closer to your age, like Dr. Frye. Go ahead and introduce yourself.”
Π
The man nodded and approached Icarus, holding out his hand. “Hello. My name is Zeke Blanche.”
Icarus took Zeke’s hand. Zeke’s grip was painfully tight.
Oh, so that was how it was going to be, was it?
Icarus smiled. “My name is Icarus Frye.
