Sienna Vaughn finally seemed to process what I said, but she thought I was exaggerating. She probably had no idea that Liam Prescott’s company existed only because of my support. Maybe she thought losing me was just losing one big client.
She gave a dismissive scoff, about to make another snide remark, but Liam interrupted her.
With a forced smile that barely concealed his desperation, he said,
“Delilah, stop joking. I’m not leaving you.”
I crossed my arms, meeting his eyes with an icy glare.
“Liam, I never joke.”
“I gave you everything. And I can take it all away. Don’t think for a second that I’ll just sit back and swallow it when you wrong me.”
Stenna started to grasp the situation. Her gaze darted between my calm demeanor and Liam’s pale defeated face. Finally ob

it.”
“So… without her, the company will die?”
Liam didn’t even look at her. His focus was entirely on me.
“Delilah, don’t make such a rash decision. Our collaboration is profitable for both sides. Canceling everything will cost you too–it’s not worth
I shook my head, tapping my fingers on the table.
“I’m not worried about the cost. But you? You’ll go bankrupt.”
Liam’s jaw tightened, his gaze hardening as he said,
“We’ve been working together for years, earning a lot. Terminating our contracts unilaterally means penalties. Are you sure your shareholders will agree?”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
Ah, there it was–the real reason for his arrogance.
“Liam, do you think I don’t know about your attempts to cozy up to my shareholders?”
He froze.
“You… you knew?”
“Don’t be so greedy, Liam. I’ve given you plenty of chances. You were the one who wanted to keep appearances up while sneaking around. You fed off my company’s resources and even tried to dilute my shares.”
Without waiting for a response, I glanced at my team and nodded.
“Let’s go.”
Liam and Sienna’s voices erupted in heated argument behind me as we exited the conference room.
“What do you mean? The company will go under?”
“So what? I’ll start over! Stop making a scene.”
“Oh, sure. This is all my fault, not yours, for being useless!”
“If you hadn’t dragged her into this, none of this would’ve happened.”
“Seriously? You’re the one who couldn’t keep your hands to yourself!”
Back at my office, my assistant brought in a stack of files.
“Take your time with the project review. Let me know when the updated proposal is ready,” I said.
“Understood, Miss Reese,” my manager replied. He looked relieved, even cheerful. Liam’s company had always been a pain to work with, forcing us to lower our standards to accommodate them.
I also called in one of my trusted assistants and instructed them to look into acquiring Liam’s company.
“If we need to use certain strategies, so be it. This is business,” I said with a shrug.
By the end of the day, I was completely immersed in work, and the chaos of the past few days felt distant.
And yet, a thought struck me–I could finally take a break.
I decided to hire a professional manager to run my company.
After all, what’s the point of earning money if you never enjoy it?
The world was vast, and I wanted to see it.
