Chapter 1021
Juan was never one to run from a fight. Yet Barton looked all serious.
“If you don’t believe ine, you can go and ask the police. Juan has fled. Mr. Andrew Potter has sent people to track him down. As long as he doesn’t leave Seamar City, everything is still in control.”
“Honey, is the car here yet?” Marion limped into view behind her.
Barton fought back the urge to laugh and said, “Mr. Andrew Potter has instructed me to escort you both home.”
“Oh, much appreciated,” Marion replied, tossing his cane to Barton.
He grabbed Debra’s arm and said, “Walking is hard for me. Be my crutch, honey.”
She glanced at his hand. “Behave yourself. Don’t make me slap you.”
Knowing she was still mad at him, Marion turned back to Barton. “She’s not in a great mood. Don’t mention anything that’ll upset her. Go bring the car around.”
Once Barton left, Marion leaned heavily on Debra, his voice soft and dramatic. “I’m really too weak to walk.”
Debra sighed and helped steady him. “Juan being picked up by his family doesn’t add up. I scared Melody away last night. How could she head back and bail him out? And knowing Juan, he’d never just run away.‘
“Uh, talking about your ex–husband in front of me. Aren’t you afraid I’ll get jealous?”
“Would you stop being jealous if I didn’t bring him up? I’m just stating the facts.”
“True, you’ve got nothing to hide.”
Debra frowned. “Don’t change the subject. Do you know something?”
Marion sighed, “I figured you’d piece it together eventually.”
“Don’t play coy. What’s going on?”
Before she could press further, Barton suddenly cleared his throat in the driver’s seat. “Mr. Houston, you’re in a bad condition. It might be better if you sit up front. I can keep an eye on you and make sure your injuries don’t worsen.
“It’s fine. I’ll stay with her.” Marion opened the back door and climbed in.
Barton helplessly shook his head.
Debra was relentless. “Now, will you tell me what’s going on?”
Barton cut in, “We’ll be there in ten minutes. Please be careful if the ride gets bumpy.”

Debra frowned. “You’re always a smooth driver, aren’t you?”
“It might not be so smooth today,” he replied, flooring the gas pedal.
The car jerked violently, bouncing over every bump in the road.
Marion grunted as his wound was strained.
“Slow down!” Debra cried, steadying Marion as best as she could.
Marion grimaced, “Are you trying to kill me?”
“I wouldn’t dare,” Barton replied evenly. “Mr. Andrew Potter and you are close friends.”
“Then you’re driving me to death?”
“Never, sir.”
Debra listened to their conversation and soon realized this had something to do with Juan.
Apparently, they didn’t want her to dig into the matter.
