Chapter 39
“Joseph. let me go! Julia shouted angrily.
Julia had no clue what had gotten into Joseph. She had to rush to attend to the patients and help bandage the injured. Even if she couldn’t perform surgeries, she had to assist the other doctors somehow.
It seemed like Joseph didn’t hear Julia’s words at all. He carried her straight to the emergency room, placing her gently on a hospital bed. When Julia tried to get up, he held her shoulders firmly.
Julia, can’t you just cooperate for once? Joseph asked.
Julia lifted her head defiantly, meeting his intense gaze. “We have no connection, so why do you think you can boss me
around?”
Once Joseph made up his mind about something, he rarely changed it. He refused to let her leave. “You were just shaken up Rest for a while. If the hospital is short–staffed, I’ll get more doctors. No need for you to get involved Joseph didn’t consider asking for Julia’s opinion.
Julia’s mind was in disarray. She didn’t understand why Joseph was meddling in her affairs. All she wanted was for him and. Amelie to stay far away from her
“You left Amelie alone at the entrance. Aren’t you worried about her? You’re usually so caring toward her, aren’t you?” Julia couldn’t help but taunt
Upon hearing this, Joseph narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze fixed on her. Julia thought he was about to get angry, and her expression grew more defiant. She wasn’t afraid of offending Joseph now. She just wished he wouldn’t keep showing up front of her.
“She’ll be fine.” Joseph said again, “You’ve been around blood too much. Are you feeling okay? I’ll take you back to Fountain Garden now
Julia found Joseph’s words ridiculous, showing a look of disbelief. She couldn’t believe he could casually say such things. “Take a good look. I’m not Amelie. I’m Julia,’ she reminded him.
Joseph nodded. “I know”
Julia sneered, asking. “You say you’ll take me back to Fountain Garden, but I’ve heard Amelie moved in there ages ago. So, are you planning to kick her out now?”
Joseph fell silent momentarily. Julia had expected this reaction from him. Even though she didn’t understand why Joseph had said what he did earlier, she wouldn’t delude herself into thinking he suddenly took an interest in her after their divorce.
“Or perhaps you want to go back to our family’s mansion? You want my mom to know you’ve already gotten pregnant?” asked Joseph.
Julia’s eyes widened as she looked at him. She couldn’t believe he knew about her pregnancy. Confusion and turmoil swirled inside her. She lowered her gaze, unsure of the expression to adopt, a myriad of emotions flitting across her face.
What she didn’t know was that Amelie, standing outside the door, was even more shocked and panicked than she was. Amelie hadn’t expected Joseph to already know about Julia’s pregnancy. She was at a loss, not knowing what to do. Moreover, she didn’t understand the meaning behind his words. She feared that because Julia was pregnant, Joseph intended to remarry her. Determined. Amelie vowed not to let that happen.
Amelie felt a mix of jealousy and resentment. Joseph had left her alone in front of those reporters for Julia’s sake. When the reporters Amanda arranged asked about their wedding plans, he answered that they weren’t getting married.
Amelie couldn’t comprehend why she, like Julia, was carrying his child.” yet Julia received preferential treatment while Joseph remained incredibly cold towards her. Amelie suspected that Joseph already knew that she wasn’t actually pregnant, but she

quickly dismissed that thought. The drug would have made him forget what happened that night, and if Joseph had doubts. he would have spoken up already. He wouldn’t have willingly accompanied her to the hospital for prenatal checks if he suspected otherwise.
Amelie cast a glance full of jealousy and resentment at Julia inside the emergency room before sending a message to Stephanie. Soon after, a sweat–drenched Stephanie rushed into the emergency room.
Joseph gave her a cold glance, and Stephanie immediately feigned panic, saying. “Mr. Mullins, Miss Hamilton has fainted. You should come and see”
Julia found Amelie’s fainting very suspicious. The timing seemed too perfect, almost orchestrated. But at that moment. Julia didn’t want Joseph to bother her any further. She needed to find a way to keep him from discovering her pregnancy Otherwise, not only Rylie but even Catalina might force her to marry Joseph again.
“It seems like Miss Hamilton needs you, Mr. Mullins. You should go.” Julia said.
When Joseph turned to Julia, all he saw was Julia’s desperate hope for him to leave. It unexpectedly pained him.
With a frosty tone, he said. “You’re Amelie’s attending physician. She’s unconscious, and you’re wasting time here?”
Stephanie froze upon hearing Joseph’s words. Usually, whenever Joseph knew Amelie wasn’t feeling well, even if it was something minor, he would rush to her room to care for her. Stephanie never anticipated that he would ask such a question at a time like this.
Stammering, Stephanie couldn’t form a response. Joseph coldly continued, “Seems like her condition isn’t that severe. You can leave. I’ll come to check on her later.
Seeing Joseph’s refusal to leave, Stephanie didn’t dare linger and hastily departed.
Julia was left speechless with astonishment. It was the first time Joseph had chosen to stay with her between her and Amelie. But she believed Joseph’s decision to choose her was because she was carrying his child
Julia, now guarded, said, “We have no ties left between us, and this child has nothing to do with you”
Joseph squinted slightly, feeling the intensity of Julia’s gaze. “What are you planning to do with this child? My mom always liked you. She only approves of you as my wife. If she finds out about your pregnancy, she’ll pressure me to marry you again unless you don’t want this child.”
Julia instantly looked up and asked. “You want me to terminate it?”
Joseph’s eyes were deep and mysterious, concealing a profound darkness. He remained silent.
A twinge of pain shot through Julia’s chest. Her mouth twitched for a moment and then curved into a sardonic smile. She finally understood why Joseph had left Amelie and stayed with her. He wanted to convince her to terminate the pregnancy.
She was just his ex–wife now, and even if she chose to keep the child, it wouldn’t interfere with Amelie. She couldn’t understand why Joseph couldn’t accept her decision to keep the baby.
Julia’s hands clenched tightly onto the edge of the bed. Overexerted, her fingertips turned white, losing sensation gradually. Joseph glanced at her hands and asked again, “What are you planning to do?”
“I will never let you harm my child, Julia asserted firmly.
“Then move to the apartment I previously gave you, Joseph replied.
“What do you mean?” Julia found herself increasingly unable to comprehend Joseph.
Td feel more at ease if you moved there. That way, my mom and your mom won’t find out about your pregnancy.” Joseph explained

Hearing this, Julia felt that Joseph just wanted to cover things up. It reinforced her earlier thoughts that Joseph would always be exceptionally attentive to Amelie, no matter the situation.
“If I move to the apartment, will it mean that once you marry Amelie, you’ll stop paying attention to my child?” Julia’s voice grew stern. Joseph, swear that if you successfully marry Amelie, we’ll be strangers with no connection from that point on.”
Unfortunately, Joseph remained silent, only saying, “We’ll talk once you move to the apartment.”
Julia’s chest heaved with anger. She furiously got off the bed, saying, “Don’t worry. I’ll do as you say, move to that apartment. and I definitely won’t let the news of my pregnancy leak out. In the future, my child won’t know you’re his father.”
She walked past Joseph and headed outside. This time, Joseph didn’t stop her. But this only made Julia feel more disheartened because it confirmed her earlier thoughts that he wasn’t truly concerned about her health or the child in her belly. He was just trying to threaten her.
