Chapter 12
Matthew ignored Hailey and continued shouting. “I know you don’t like Terence at all. Why else would you abandon him time and time again to come to me when I was abroad? You helped me settle my divorce and picked me up at the airport.
“You even allowed me to move into one of your villas! Why would you care so much about me if you didn’t love me?”
He tugged his suit. “Look–even this suit is tailored to fit me. You must love me, right?”
Nora secretly cursed him for being an idiot. However, her smile remained in place. She signaled to the butler, who stepped forward and apologized to the guests. “Allow me to apologize on the Rainer family’s behalf. This man is deranged: I hope you won’t mind him.“
Then, he gestured for the guests to leave. They knew this was a personal matter for the Rainer family, so they didn’t linger despite their desire for gossip. They left the villa, but the Rainer family knew there was no controlling what they would say once they were out of the house.
Once the final guest was gone, Nora finally dropped her smile and slapped Matthew hard. “You bastard!
“Mom!” Hailey knew Matthew was in the wrong, but her heart still ached when she saw him being slapped, She hurried forward to shield him.
“Hailey
Matthew cupped his cheek, looking aggrieved as he continued, “I know I was wrong to do this, but it was only because I loved you. That’s why I…”
He. e off abruptly, looking like he was so choked up that he couldn’t continue. Her heart twisted at the sight, and she pulled him into her arms.
“Don’t beat yourself up over this. I had no intention of getting mad at you,” she said.
Nora resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she said coldly, “I don’t care what you’re trying to achieve, but you shouldn’t have tried to ruin someone else’s wedding.”
