I hired a top private investigator to follow Mia.
The investigator gave me many photos.
Photos of Mr. Wilson throwing a check at Mia, photos of Mia boarding a plane to leave the country, photos of Zack frantically searching for
Mia…
Many photos, all indicating that my plan was developing along its intended trajectory.
I was still Zack’s girlfriend.
But Mia, who was no longer around, had become the unattainable ideal in his heart.
Our engagement ceremony was held soon after.
My dad came to attend.
My mom didn’t come.
I told her not to come.
The union of H City’s two top families dominated a large section of the social news in the papers.
I continued to play the role of the perfect fiancée who loved Zack deeply in front of others.
Four years passed quickly.
After graduation, Zack and I both joined our family companies.
Maybe enough time really had passed?
Long enough for the glow of Mia, that unattainable ideal, to gradually fade.
Zack’s feelings for me returned to the passion of our initial honeymoon period.
We were going to get married.
I had someone inform Mia, who was abroad, that Zack and I were getting married soon.
I also let her know that Zack had been treating her as his unattainable ideal all this time.
Sure enough, she couldn’t accept it.
She came back.
When Zack found out, he went to pick her up at the airport himself.
My top private investigator got to work again.
After three years apart, Mia returned gloriously transformed, with long straight black hair, wearing a floral sundress.
Zack was truly stunned by the elegant and gentle woman before him.
“Mia, I had no idea you’d look so beautiful with long hair.”
Mia leaned into his arms coyly.
“Zack, when I was abroad I always fantasized about us being together someday. So I studied hard, hoping that one day I could confidently stand by your side.”
“Heaven doesn’t disappoint those who work hard. Look, aren’t I worthy of you now?”
Mia’s eyes shone like stars as she eagerly sought affirmation from the man she loved.
Zack covered Mia’s eyes, avoiding her question.
“But, I’m going to marry Olivia. The date is already set…”
Mia’s eyes widened in disbelief.
She pushed his hand away and stared at the man she had longed for day and night.
“Zack, but we’ve known each other longer.”
Mia held Zack’s hands and cried pitifully.
“Zack, Olivia is just a small obstacle on our path of love. We’re meant to be together, aren’t we?”
Zack wiped away her tears. His fingers twitched, wanting to pull back several times.
But looking at his tearful ideal, he just couldn’t bring himself to say those words.
“Yes, we’re meant to be together.”
He held her in his arms, gently and preciously.
