The surgical lights came on, and though I was supposed to drift off under the anesthesia, I kept hearing snippets of conversation:
“It’s a boy.”
“Such a shame. The child is already fully formed.”
“Luna and Alpha Joseph were a perfect match, but I heard they’re not fated mates. That made their pregnancy even more difficult. It’s a tragic irony that such a rare child ended up being lost this way.”
Yes.
Chapter 5
Alpha Joseph and I were true childhood
sweethearts.
Our backgrounds and statuses were a perfect
match.
He was to be the future Alpha of the Wilderness
Pack, and I was the only daughter of the Alpha
of the Darkmoon Pack.
But I wasn’t his fated mate.
Hallie was.
On Alpha Joseph’s 18th birthday, he immediately found his fated mate. Even though Hallie was just an Omega, the lowest rank of servant in the Wilderness Pack, he only had eyes.
for her.
From his public declaration on TV for Hallie’s birthday to his constant favoritism towards her,
it was all well known

I watched from the sidelines, silently envious.
But ten years ago, the Wilderness Pack was attacked by rogue wolves. Alpha Joseph’s father was killed by the rogues while defending the pack. Alpha Joseph’s mother was also slain by the rogues while searching for Alpha Joseph, who had gone out to meet Hallie.
When Alpha Joseph returned to the pack and learned of the tragedy, he charged alone into the rogues‘ territory to avenge his parents. By the time my father and his troops arrived, Alpha Joseph’s legs had been shattered by the rogues.
Hallie had disappeared at that time as well.
He was despondent for a long time, drowning his sorrows in alcohol.
When I found him, he was being beaten by bouncers at a bar for causing a commotion while drunk.

1 cried as I stopped the bouncers, giving them all my money. Seeing my desperation, they eventually let him go.
In the dimly lit alley, it was just the two of us.
I carefully helped him up, but he pushed me away with a cold voice: “I don’t need your pity.”
I stubbornly blocked his path and said firmly, “Alpha Joseph, I can help you.”
I swore, at that moment, my intentions were purely to help him, with no expectations of anything in return.
But he looked at me for a long while, then suddenly sneered.“Do you pity me? Does giving me charity satisfy your vanity?”
I was taken aback.

Chapter 5
Before I could respond, he turned on his heel and walked away.
But I still pleaded with my father, Alpha Casper of the Darkmoon Pack, to help him.
He trained Alpha Joseph to become stronger, lent him money to raise an army, and assisted him in rebuilding the Wilderness Pack.
Alpha Joseph’s attitude towards me gradually
softened.
Later, on my 18th birthday, I discovered that he was not my fated mate, and I was heartbroken.
I had hoped that Moon Goddess would sense my love for him and make me his second mate, but it didn’t happen.
Yet Alpha Joseph still firmly took my hand and
declared me as his fated mate.
Chapter 6
I was overjoyed.
I believed I had finally melted the ice around Alpha Joseph’s heart and that he had long forgotten Hallie.
In that moment, I truly thought we would be together forever.
Until Hallie returned, and now, as I lie on the operating table.
