Chapter 6
When I woke up, I found Alpha Joseph by my
bedside.
His presence made me feel profoundly uncomfortable. As I tried to leave, I accidentally
woke him.
“Evelyn, you’re awake,” he said, his face gaunt and haggard.
His shirt was disheveled, a far cry from his usual immaculate appearance.
“I’m sorry,” he said, “If the hospital hadn’t notified me, I wouldn’t have known you were pregnant. Why didn’t you tell me earlier? If only

was waiting for your explanation at the estate, but you were too busy with Hallie.”
Alpha Joseph looked at me, his expression one of pained disbelief.
“How… how could this happen?” he whispered, reaching out to touch me, but I slapped his hand away.
I glared at him, a cruel smile forming on my lips.
“Alpha Joseph, you’re the one who killed our child. Yesterday, while you were protecting Hallie and abandoning me, you killed our baby with your own hands.”
After a long silence, he crouched down, covering his face and sobbing. “Evelyn, I’m so sorry. It wasn’t intentional. I didn’t want this. I loved our child too.”
Chapter 6–
1 suddenly felt the urge to laugh, tears
streaming down my face as my laughter grew louder.
“You loved him? Alpha Joseph, don’t make me sick. After ten years with you, you could hurt me repeatedly for your past love, and now, you claim to care about an unborn puppy?”
He looked up at me, his hands clenched in instinctive desperation.
“Evelyn, I truly won’t seek her out again. Please, give me another chance. We can have more children.”
“I’ve given you chances,” I said softly, wiping the tears from my eyes. “Remember the day you forced me to give Hallie my mother’s emerald necklace? You knew it was my mother’s heirloom.”

Alpha Joseph’s expression froze.
Perhaps he thought that event had been forgotten.

“Alpha Joseph, let’s sever our mate bond. I truly no longer want you.”
I once believed Alpha Joseph was my entire world, but now I realize that all the storms were brought by him.
I took a deep breath, staring directly into Alpha Joseph’s eyes, and said word by word:
“I, Evelyn of Darkmoon Pack, reject you, Alpha Joseph of Wilderness Pack.”
I felt my heart shatter. Zoe howled within me, her pain palpable.
“Zoe?” I called to my wolf. “Are you alright?”
“No, Evelyn,” she complained. “I’m in so much
pain.”
“I know,” I said softly. “I’m sorry.”

“His wolf wants us,” she continued. “Chris wants
us, even though he knows Hallie is his mate.
He still wants to choose us. We could fix this mistake together.”
But I’m tired. I don’t want him anymore.
Alpha Joseph looked at me, his eyes filled with pain and disbelief. Most wolves would collapse from the pain of severing a mate bond. I wanted to fall to the ground and claw at my chest. But Alpha Joseph did not. He stood tall, his posture unwavering. He took a deep breath.
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
“No regrets?”
“No regrets.” I fought back tears and stared directly into his eyes.
“Very well, as you wish.”

“I, Alpha Joseph of Wilderness Pack, accept your rejection, Evelyn.”
I felt tears fall onto my face. When I opened my eyes, Alpha Joseph was gone.
My hand instinctively touched my neck where Alpha Joseph’s mark once was, now vanished.
I never imagined I would personally sever the mate bond with Alpha Joseph, nor did I think I could endure such pain and survive.
I trembled all over, my soul fragmented.
There was a gaping hole in my heart, but I believe I will eventually mend it on my own.
